Express Data last week advertised 10 positions, many of them senior, on jobs site seek.com.au to beef up its key product teams.
The distributor advertised for six new product managers, three of which were specialty roles for Cisco, Symantec, Novell and CA; the other three were more general.
And it advertised for a buying officer, eBusiness manager, Cisco business enablement specialist and an account manager.
Express Data's hiring manager Melissa Baker said two of the product manager positions were to fill holes created through staff transfers but the "rest is due to expansion".
She said that the distributor sought to move people into new roles.
"We're good at developing people at Express Data, so our strategy is to have a positive turnover to foster a growth strategy for our high-profile performers," she said.
"Employees are encouraged to move up or move on into our vendor partners. We work proactively with them.
"There's only so far [employees] can go sometimes. Rather than employees getting bored we help to foster them."
Baker said Express Data recruited from its own staff and gave staff $4000 when they referred outsiders who were subsequently hired.
"It proves to be an awesome retention tool, a reward mechanism, and our people are often the best spotters of talent," she said.
