Equinix will expand its data centre footprint in Melbourne with a new facility in Port Melbourne.
The company will invest an initial $117 million to build a new IBX data centre called ME2, which will host more than 8 square kilometres of colocation space once completed.
The first phase is set to open in Q3 this year with an initial capacity of 1000 cabinets and a colocation space of more than 2.7 square kilometres.
ME2 will provide geographic redundancy solutions for existing Equinix customers as well as spaces for new customers.
The new facility will be located adjacent to ME1 with direct physical access via a secure link bridge, as well as connectivity to the ME4 IBX in Derrimut via Equinix Metro Connect.
