Empired scoops IT supply deal from Rio Tinto

Empired has scored a new IT supply contract with Rio Tinto.

The Perth-headquartered IT services provider didn’t expand on what the contract involves beyond “IT supply.” The contract will run for an initial three years, with two options to extend for another year apiece.

Tthe company did say that the contract provided the opportunity to bid for provision of services across existing service pillars and a range of newly-defined service pillars.

Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said: “We are very proud to partner with one of the most successful diversified mining companies in the world where together we have pioneered and delivered many world-class, technology solutions to Rio Tinto’s mining, processing and logistics operations across the globe.”

Empired reported a one percent rise in revenue in the 2019 financial year to $176 million while incurring a $15 million loss after writing down its software assets.

The company has invested heavily in "Cohesion", its cloud-based enterprise content and collaboration management system. The platform’s development led to Empired establishing a dedicated software sales function along with “a solid pipeline of Cohesion opportunities that we will contest in the near term.”
