Emerson designed and manufactured the cooler in-house and will officially launch it at the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Building Services (ARBS) exhibition in Melbourne next week.
“Today, the data centre is business-critical,” said David Scott, managing director, Emerson Network Power Australia. “This is driving downtime costs higher, while the resources you have available for critical system management are shrinking. Whether you are implementing VoIP, consolidating servers or simply adding capacity, the reliability and flexibility of your power and cooling infrastructure will determine how well you can control costs and system availability as you manage change.”
The PEX is the highest kilowatt-per-square-metre precision cooler in its class, claimed Emerson. Designed for ease of servicing, major components that may need attention over the unit’s life are positioned for easy access. Units are cross linkable and feature intelligent monitoring and diagnostics and an infrared humidifier.
Mark Deguara, national product manager, Emerson Network Power Australia, said that cooling is one of the most crucial, and expensive, functions of modern data centres.
“Up to 50 percent of the power used in a data centre goes to the infrastructure used to cool down the computer equipment in the facility. The more efficient the cooler, the lower the cost to the data centre, which in large facilities amounts to millions of dollars every year,” he said.
“The new Liebert PEX requires nothing more than direct front access for installation and routine servicing. This means that you can achieve 100 percent space utilisation around the unit and not suffer dead space caused by service access requirements on the sides and rear. With other units, you will lose valuable floor space for the same kilowatt capacity – which means less room for racks and ultimately higher total cost of ownership,” he added.
