Clive Gold, EMC product marketing director, told CRN the appeal of the CLARiiON CX4 will be widespread and all resellers and system integrators that provide infrastructure will be interested in selling the Clariion CX4.
According to Gold, the Clariion CX4 comes 'future ready', fully upgradeable at both front and the back end of the device, unique for this type of storage device. The product utilises Ultraflex and service providers will have the ability to add and change connection points as required via SLIC cards (small I/O cards), scaling and future proofing the device.
“There are also new spin-down features which mean the storage systems power off when they are not being deployed. Essentially, as new storage technologies become available, such as 8GB fibre channel and 10 GB IP to allow the product to be connected into a CX4 storage system,” said Gold.
He told CRN that resellers selling CX4’s at the same time as VMware, can expect additional margin EMC on the CLARiiON hardware - that usually more than doubles the amount they earn from selling VMware.
“One of the innovations within the CX4 is ‘Virtual Provisioning’ which makes the machine more efficient and lowers the administration cost. Using this facility the customer purchases just the amount of storage they require, and as such purchase more every quarter as they grow,” he said.
“Outside of the capacity upgrades there are other recurring revenues such as maintenance and services to help keep the system running smoothly.”
Gold claimed CX4 meets the demands of a number of different environments and applications such as VMware, and Hyper-V environments as well as Microsoft Applications such as Exchange and SQL and for Oracle databases and applications.
