DiData launches security assessment tool

Global systems integrator Dimension Data has launched a security assessment tool designed to help organisations identify vulnerable devices on their corporate networks.

Called the Technology Lifecycle Management Assessment for Security, it is being rolled out to the company’s global customer base as of today.

DiData’s own research found two thirds of all corporate network devices scoped in 2011 carried at least one known security vulnerability, with 30 percent in the highest threat category.

“These statistics should be a reminder to those in IT security to identify and apply security controls consistently across their organisation, or run the risk of security breaches that can severely impact business and damage brand reputation if made public,” said Jason Ha, DiData’s national security manager.

He added that new regulations designed to encourage better security compliance in the corporate world meant even non-IT directors could be held liable for breaches. In 2011, there were more than 14,000 regulatory announcements affecting businesses across all industries.

DiData stressed the sheer number and variety of cyber-attacks these days make it very difficult for companies to properly understand the threats and protect themselves, while tighter regulations around compliance increased the pressures on them to do so.

“With this assessment, we can help organisations to proactively plan, design, and build security architectures based on changing business demands and their appetite for risk," Ha said. "This will in turn provide reduced operational costs, better budget planning and a more predictable operational expenditure.”
