Dicker Data breaks ground on new distribution centre

Dicker Data has officially commenced construction of its new distribution centre in Kurnell, located in South Sydney.

The centre, located at 238-258 Captain Cook Drive, is adjacent to Dicker’s existing distribution centre on the same straight.

The new facility will stretch to 29,000 square metres, with 22,000 square metres of warehouse space alone, boosting warehouse space by 50 percent and more than doubling office space.

Dicker’s longest-serving employee Julie Shen was given the honours of breaking ground at a ceremony this morning. Shen has worked for the company for 28 years, and is currently Dicker’s national vendor business development manager.

“It’s a great privilege to be the one to break ground at our new site in Kurnell,” said Shen. “When I first started at Dicker Data we were operating out of a much smaller office and there was only five or so staff. It’s amazing to see how much the company has grown over the last 28 years and I’m very proud to be a part of the Dicker Data business”

Dicker sold its current distribution centre for $36 million in August 2019, making a tidy $12 million profit in the process. Those proceeds will go towards reducing debt and funding the construction of the new centre. The company is leasing its current facility until the new one is constructed, which is expected to wrap up in late 2020. Construction is being carried out by Novati Constructions.

Dicker CFO Mary Stojcevski gave a brief overview of the new facility, saying: “We’ve kept our people front of mind throughout the design process. We see our new facility as an opportunity to cement our position as one of the most desirable places to work in the Australian IT industry. From walking tracks to dedicated new-mother and baby facilities, we’ve listened to the needs of our staff and firmly believe our new facility will be a great place that our people will look forward to coming to every day.”
