New Zealand’s Datacom has sold its Asia call centre business to Convergys, a US-based business process outsourcing specialist, for an undisclosed sum.

The deal involves its Asia-based call centres with the capability to handle 15 languages between its 1000-strong employee base.

The three centres are located in Manila and Kuala Lumpur.

The press statement said Datacom had reached a tipping point, and required further investment for the Asia-based call centre business to grow.

“This divestment of Asia based contact centres and renewed focus on our strategically poised Asia Systems business will serve to strengthen our capacity for expansion and acquisition investment in our other growth areas,” said Datacom chief  Jonathan Ladd in a statement.
