The networking vendor has launched a new program called the Partner Solution Development Platform (PSDP) to provide partners with greater flexibility. Specialised applications can be created on best-in-class JUNOS software. Juniper Networks is touting the move as the industry’s first partner development platform for a carrier-class network operating system.
Roger Geerts, director of systems engineering for A/NZ at Juniper Networks said the platform allows partners to add functionality to the hardware platforms. Initially resellers with development capability can leverage this to enhance their services to clients, and over time, they can take advantage of applications created by other networking vender partners.
“Unique 3rd party applications can be developed to run on JUNOS providing more choice and greater control for our customers and partners. For example, a network management partner who provides service monitoring may today need to insert a probe into several parts of a network but developing this functionality on JUNOS can reduce footprint, complexity and time to market. This benefits the customer and the network management vendor,” said Geerts.
“As more development partners utilise the PSDP, more custom application will be built on top of JUNOS. The PSDP is only possible because of the architectural strengths of JUNOS and because JUNOS runs on our high end core routers through to customer premises equipment, clients of any size will see benefits from this program.”
One of the main aims behind the move was to ‘accelerate the pace of innovation’ so reseller partners can develop new revenue-generating services unique to the business. The PSDP has a software development kit (SDK) with intelligent and secure interfaces to JUNOS routing and service functions. This provides additional control when designing, developing and deploying custom applications such as event-optimised routing and customised bandwidth management.
