CSC Australia has won a $20 million deal to update technology at federal government agency Geoscience Australia.
The initial three-year contract, which includes two options for one-year extensions, covers all Geoscience Australia offices.
According to CSC, the contract includes services, hardware and software. The IT provider has partnered with HDS, ServiceNow, AT&T and other global vendors to provide the services.
"CSC leveraged its partner ecosystem to offer Geoscience Australia a true as-a-service, consumption-based contract," the spokesperson said. "CSC will help reduce commodity computing costs, allowing GA to funnel savings back into the business and achieve its aspirational strategic vision."
Geoscience Australia is a 600-staff public sector organisation that applies science and technology to describe and understand the earth. Its main facility, located in Canberra, has laboratories, library and an education centre.
CSC won an open tender process to attend to the department's needs to meet the demand for more scientific data – and IT capability and capacity.
"Central to the capability CSC is providing is the ability for Geoscience staff, and in particular scientists, to better collaborate and self-serve. It will enable Geoscience to fully embrace the cloud and orchestrate workloads across the hybrid environment using CSC's Agility product."
