CSC signs $100m contract with Transport for NSW

IT services provider CSC announced a $100 million contract with Transport for NSW to provide network managed services across 1,200 sites for three years.

The upgrade will see 20 data centres moved into two government data centres managed by the same provider and a single cloud based email and collaboration system will support all staff.

The agreement allows for two one-year extensions and will affect 25,000 staff from administration offices, motor registries, railway stations and roadside depots.

CSC Australia & New Zealand managing director Seelan Nayagam said: "Transport for NSW has been a long standing client of UXC’s since 1992. With CSC’s recent acquisition of UXC, we are looking forward to helping Transport for NSW realise even further efficiencies with our combined capabilities."

During the next six months CSC will manage third-party service and carriage providers to achieve "economies of scale and cost savings", which will be important to make sure end-users can access business applications at all times.

This is part of Transport for NSW Next Generation Infrastructure Services' program and will consolidate its IT networks across NSW.

Transport for NSW secretary Tim Reardon said: "This upgrade will bring the whole transport team onto a single, fast and modern network, allowing staff to collaborate and work anywhere they need to – across locations or in the field – saving time and money."

The program will see more contracts over the next five years, including new cloud based collaboration services and more mobile tools for staff, according to Transport for NSW.

Reardon said that Transport for NSW can't continue running a transport network that supports 16 million daily journeys across greater Sydney with an outdated system.

"Transport for NSW is responsible for delivering a record $38 billion infrastructure program over the next four years, including building new motorways, train lines and light rail networks to support the State’s growth," said Reardon.
