Cloudera introduces secure, 'Internet-free' cloud connectivity

Cloudera has introduced the Private Link Network, a new service designed to provide secure, private connectivity between customer workloads and the vendor's Control Plane, without traversing the public Internet.

As Cloudera PLN aims to prevent data from traversing the public internet, it helps address  security and privacy concerns for organisations in highly regulated industries.

Cloudera said this includes financial services institutions managing large volumes of sensitive customer data, healthcare providers needing to maintain strict privacy requirements, and pharmaceuticals that have to protect personally identifiable information (PII) among others.

The Private Link Network integrates with major cloud providers, utilising services such as AWS PrivateLink and Azure Private Link.

It extends secure data transfer across multiple cloud environments, enabling consistent security and management.

Key features of the Private Link Network include:

  • Cross-cloud private connectivity service
  • Integration with existing cloud provider services
  • Support for multi-cloud connectivity
  • Self-service provisioning through Cloudera Command Line Interface

Dipto Chakravarty, chief product officer at Cloudera, said the new service is designed to address enterprise privacy and connectivity concerns while lowering total cost of ownership.

The Private Link Network is particularly relevant for organisations in finance, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals, where data privacy is crucial.

It aims to solve challenges related to data transfer between tenants within the same cloud, which can sometimes risk exposure by traversing the public internet.

Vini Cardoso, field chief technology officer for Cloudera Australia and New Zealand, said that the service could help Australian organisations address data privacy and security challenges as they invest in hybrid and multi-cloud environments for AI-enabled applications.
