Australian sovereign cloud infrastructure-as-a-service provider AUCloud has tapped Veeam to provide backup services for both its internal infrastructure and customers.
The company went with Veeam’s Backup & Replication, Cloud Connect and Backup for Microsoft Office 365 solutions, citing cost-effectiveness and ease of deployment.
Internally, AUCloud integrated Veeam with Cisco storage servers to back up the virtual machine (VM) infrastructure, including the Office 365 system. For customers, Veeam was integrated with VMware vCloud Director to allow virtual estate backups.
“Our VM infrastructure makes up 98 percent of AUCloud’s internal business,” AUCloud head of compute, storage and backup Peter Zafiris said.
“We use Veeam in conjunction with our Cisco UCS S3260 storage servers to back up internal VMs and Microsoft Office 365 tenancy, which are both critical to our business.”
AUCloud, which launched in 2018 by the founders of UKCloud, exclusively focuses on the Australian government (federal, state and local) and Critical National Industry communities. The company hosts its platform in Canberra Data Centres and has been largely VMware-based with plans for OpenStack and Microsoft Azure Stack in the future.
Zafiris said Veeam’s ease of deployment and integration stands out for AUCloud’s business. “With a significant number of government agencies already utilising Veeam, we found backing up and managing data recovery quite a simple process,” he said.
AUCloud said it also received positive feedback from customers, citing the ease of use of the self-service portal to recover items from Microsoft Office 365 estates.
