Hosted desktop provider Cloud DC has been awarded a $1 million federal government grant to commercialise its mobile desktop product.
OfficeBox is Cloud DC’s flagship mobility desktop service, which allows users to access software like the Microsoft Office suite through multiple devices, including smartphones and tablets.
Cloud DC received the grant as part of the federal government’s Entrepreneurs Programme, which invests in Australian companies to overcome commercialisation challenges for innovative products.
The latest round of funding pledged $14.6 million to 24 Australian companies. Past tech recipients include CryptoPhoto’s malware-blocking tool and Clarinox’s internet of things connectivity solution.
Cloud DC chief executive Steve Robinson told CRN the funding would be used to bring Cloud DC’s OfficeBox to North American resellers.
The Sunshine Coast-based company has already established an office in Austin, Texas and has hired its first three employees. Robinson said he is currently in talks with a number of US resellers and is looking for a distributor.
“The award of $1 million under this grant to Cloud DC to accelerate the commercialisation of OfficeBox is a big shot in the arm for the business just as we embark on expanding our market reach into North America and Europe,” said Robinson
“Being a merit-based program, with only 24 companies awarded in this round, again attests to the strength of the company’s developed technology platform and the market opportunity that the panel of industry leading judges have recognised.”
