Cisco beefs up Data Centre 3.0 portfolio

Cisco has introduced a package of new products as part of its Data Centre 3.0 campaign.

The company unveiled hardware and software components as well as extensions and services for the company's Wide Area Application Services (Waas) WAN management platform.

Among the products introduced was FabricPath, a new addition to the Cisco NX-OS networking operating system. The company said that the FabricPath tool will allow enterprises to increase scalability while improving network performance and resiliency.

To run FabricPath, the company is offering an I/O module for its Nexus 7000 datacentre switch as well as an integrated hardware and software system dubbed the FabricPath switching system.

Cisco said that early adopters of the system include Nasa's Ames Research Centre and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

The company also introduced an update for its Catalyst switch line. The new 4948E model promises faster performance and capacity along with support for IPv6.

For Waas, Cisco's offering in the wide area network (WAN) optimisation space, the company announced five new services and extensions. The updates include improved support for network and web applications along with better Windows Server performance and an update for the Waas Mobile offering.

A new IT consulting service has also been introduced. Cisco said that its Cloud Enablement Services would help companies plan and implement transitions from datacentre deployments to cloud-based systems.
