Melbourne software developer and consultant Cevo has hired former Kloud boss James Lewis to spearhead a push into Sydney.

Lewis takes on the newly-created role of NSW general manager and will build a local team from scratch.

Cevo said the expansion was a “logical next step” in its growth objectives, and said it will have a bigger impact on “driving progressive technology outcomes” across Australia.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Cevo business and building on the enormous success of the Melbourne team in my home town of Sydney,” Lewis said.

“The demand for high quality, outcome focused consultancy is high, and at Cevo we're focused on delivering solutions around the devops mindset and agile based principles that we believe deeply in."

Cevo also revealed it has brought in former Kloud directors Nicki Bowers and Brendan Carius to its board as non-executive directors. Bowers and Carius, along with fellow ex-Kloud execs Chris Padgett and David Lee, have founded a new company called 'Arinco'.

Cevo's roots are in Sydney, where the company operated before being acquired by Kloud in 2015. When Telstra acquired Kloud the following year, Cevo broke off as an independent business in Melbourne alone.

“All of us at Cevo are rapt to have James join us to reinvigorate Cevo NSW, and to welcome Nicki and Brendan back to the Cevo board. It’s critical to have the right people in the right roles when building high performance teams,” Cevo managing partner Hannah Browne said.

“James, Nicki and Brendan bring a depth of expertise growing companies like Cevo, and understand the value in building the right things as well as building things right. It’s going to be an exciting year of growth for our customers and team!”
