Canon taps Adobe to boost document security

Canon has announced an extended partnership with Adobe Systems, along with new software designed to boost security and usability.

The alliance between Canon and Adobe was established in 2005, but the printer firm will now offer integration with Adobe's LiveCycle Rights Management ES system directly from its new imageRunner Advance products to allow users to easily apply document security policies to scanned documents.

Paul Rowntree, Canon European marketing manager, demonstrated how users can choose from a number of security policies when scanning a document to a PC, for example a policy that will not allow any other users to print the document.

"This type of security is unique to Canon and shows how our printers fit with a secure document management system," he said.

Canon also launched a new version of its iW360 printer software which has been designed to reduce the headaches often associated with using MFPs.

Users will be able to assemble documents with material from multiple sources using easy drag-and-drop functionality, according to the firm. Users can also be more environmentally friendly by merging the pages together, Rowntree said.
