BlackBerry loses security edge

Apple and Android smartphones can now have the same security protection that used to push governments and enterprises to BlackBerry.

Good Technology has had its enterprise solution, Good for Enterprise, awarded with the highest security certification level under the internationally recognised Common Criteria program.

Vice president and general manager Gavin Jones, who replaced Jim Watson five months ago, told CRN "it's the first time that any vendor has achieved certification on Android and iOS devices up to EAL4+".

Previously an EAL4+ rating was BlackBerry's distinct advantage in the government and enterprise space. However, the growing popularity of Apple and Android devices coinciding with the BYOD trend has seen the need for a security solution like Good for Enterprise.

"BlackBerry has that rating for just their own platform. But BlackBerry is no longer a preferred device," Jones said.

Good for Technology believes their latest offering will provide managed service resellers and their ten ANZ channel partners with great opportunities.

"We offer training and educational programs that span from implementation to development support, and even end-user training."

The accreditation has seen local uptake of Good for Enterprise boost from "hundreds to thousands" of end users, proving popular with companies that include Bank of Queensland and the Australian government's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
