Blackberry introduces crisis communications program to channel partners

Blackberry has launched a crisis communications specialisation program for its Australian channel partners.

The program aims to improve communication and collaboration between Blackberry's partners and their customers in the event of a disaster.

The program is based around Blackberry’s AtHoc platform, which includes a training curriculum for sales, technical support, and integration for partners.

"Public safety is a growing issue worldwide, especially for major cities that attract mass gatherings of people," Blackberry chief security officer Alex Manea said.

“As incidents happen quickly, the most important thing for decision-makers is to receive and share correct information, then act on it quickly to keep people safe.”

Melbourne-based Blackberry partner Crisis Shield has already made use of the program through an initiative it developed with Blackberry in June called The Melbourne Shield.

The public safety initiative allows Melbourne-based organisations and institutions with a duty of care to stay connected with one another during an emergency.

Melbourne Shield lists customers such as RMIT University, Deakin University and retail property group Vicinity Centres.

“Our clients, especially those with a duty of care, are increasingly looking for ways to create a secure environment for their people and limit disruption to business,” Crisis Shield managing director Alan Briggs said.

“Crisis Shield is working with BlackBerry, combining our expertise in crisis communications with the BlackBerry AtHoc platform, including our Melbourne Shield people safety initiative.”

“With our unique skill set, Crisis Shield will now be pursuing the accreditation to become BlackBerry’s first Crisis Communication Specialist partner.”
