AWS partners with La Trobe University to offer fully-online cloud technology degree

Melbourne’s La Trobe University will be offering what it claims to be Australia’s first applied cloud technology bachelor’s degree program, developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services and online learning partner Didasko.

The three-year degree was developed with the intention of addressing skill gaps and will be delivered entirely online, available either full-time or part-time.

AWS will provide materials based on AWS global programs, including resources from AWS certified cloud practitioner and AWS associate solutions architect certifications, as well as machine learning, big data analytics and cybersecurity.

“We are excited to bring this innovative degree offering to students within Australia and internationally, working closely with AWS to meet a critical workforce need,” La Trobe University vice chancellor John Dewar said.

“La Trobe is highly focused on delivering course opportunities that are closely connected to future careers in a rapidly transforming workforce.”

AWS global programs are adapted from AWS Educate, a suite of self-paced online learning content, and AWS Academy, which offers higher education institutions authorised AWS cloud learning modules designed for academic purposes.

Students undertaking the program will receive an applied diploma after completing the first year, an associate degree after the second year and the full bachelor’s degree upon completion within three years.

The first intake has commenced this month, with intakes to continue on a monthly basis.

“When we speak with our customers across public sector, start-ups, small-to-medium business and large enterprises, there is one common theme – they are all looking for talent skilled in applying AWS services to help them remediate technical debt and drive innovation,” AWS Asia Pacific and Japan managing director Peter Moore said.

“Through the launch of their applied cloud technology bachelor’s degree, in collaboration with an established online learning provider like Didasko, La Trobe University is helping to cultivate the AWS cloud skills that employers are seeking, in Australia and beyond.”
