AWS drives Bulletproof growth surge

Hosting provider Bulletproof's unplanned move to Amazon Web Services (AWS) has paid off, with 46 percent growth and 200 new customers, the company revealed to CRN.

Bulletproof joined AWS as a partner in October 2012, offering to design, deploy and manage customers’ Amazon Web Services environments.

The partnership came about after Bulletproof was approached by AWS to cement a custom arrangement the hosting provider had with customer Movember to manage its AWS environment.

Mark Randall, formerly Rackspace's local boss and now director of sales and marketing at Bulletproof, revealed the company had added 200 new customers in the space of a year.

"Customer numbers have increased from 300 to 500 in the last twelve months," Randall told CRN.

New Bulletproof customers for the financial year include Aldi, Universal Music Australia and Mortgage Choice. Randall credited AWS with driving sales.

"The last 6-9 months has seen significant growth from Amazon."

Bulletproof's 2013 financial year earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation grew 107 percent year-on-year, reflecting improved profitability due to increased scale, it said.

The recent result pushes Bulletproof's average growth to over 50 percent for the past three years. The company declined to provide financial figures.

In 2012 Bulletproof placed 12 in CRN's Fast50 2012 with total sales of $10.1 million.

Bulletproof is forecasting similar growth levels over the next two to three years, but Randall conceded the company will have to work harder to keep its momentum.

"As we get bigger and we put that growth on a bigger and bigger number, it becomes more challenging to sustain it."
