Distribution giant Avnet is set to revamp its service offerings with an emphasis on cloud-enabling its channel partners.
According to Adam Chicktong, Avnet Australia’s service director, the overhauled service offerings focus on three main areas. “The first area is software services and the cloud,” he told CRN.
Chicktong said cloud is Avnet’s strongest offering at present in Australia. “Typically we are strong in hosted private cloud services. We provide a lot of service around infrastructure as a service and software as a service,” he said.
“We’re focusing on core vendor technologies from IBM and Microsoft, and we’re also offering public cloud such as Amazon Web Services.” he added.
The second focus area is on lifecycle services, which includes things like integration, implementation, call centre and field depot, all the way through to end of life and e-cycling.
“We have the ability to do integration, installation and implementation, and ecycling,” he said. “We’re going to be putting increasing focus into those areas over the next twelve months.”
The final area of services focus for Avnet is in the field of education services. “We do a small amount of this at the moment, but we will be growing this area over the next year.”
The renewed focus on services means the company is aggressively growing headcount, something Chicktong said has been happening quietly over the last eighteen months.
“As the business grows we have aggressive growth plans,” he said “In order to facilitate the growth of the business, we are growing the services division. For a distributor we already have a large support group. For example cloud has 25 engineers, while integration has at least 20 people.”
