Australia first to get Dimension Data's cloud security service

Dimension Data and vendor Blue Coat have announced their global managed cloud security service WebSaaS ("web security-as-a-service") will be available first in Australia.

After its release in Australia, WebSaaS will be made available to Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the USA.

Australian was chosen because of a cybersecurity talent shortage enterprises have been facing, according to Dimension Data, and also for being an early adopter of cloud services.

"Australia’s population, and its isolation, means there's only a limited number of very skilled resources available in the market and the demand for security expertise is only increasing while business models are adapting to the digital economy. Enterprises must be able to defend an employee, wherever they and their internet-connected devices go," Dimension Data group executive for security Matthew Gyde said.

WebSaaS will monitor inbound and outbound traffic to identify and block malicious content like viruses, malware, and untrusted websites. The solution can be extended to protect mobile devices.

Blue Coat cloud service receives real-time input from more than 15,000 companies worldwide, according to the company. All Blue Coat's data centres are interconnected providing redundancy and better user experience.

"We are focused on enabling our customers to maintain visibility and control over their users and data across all devices, networks and applications while ensuring a robust security posture," Blue Coat vice president of Asia Pacific Andrew Littleproud said.
