Apple released the second generation iPad this evening in Apple stores and select resellers around the country.
Enthusiasts such as Alex Lee reportedly began the line two days before the 5pm Friday launch at Sydney's flagship Sydney store.
Josh Odermatt was eighth in line and waited 24 hours. He told CRN that he already had the first generation iPad but thought the iPad 2 "was beautiful".
Police struggled to contain the crowds as on lookers, including Sydney CBD workers heading home, stopped to have a look.
Pricing started at $579 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. Telco partners also released their prices today.
The second-generation device has a rear and front facing cameras, new chip and iOS upgrade to version 4.3, dual-core A5 processors and a slimmed-down profile.
It went on sale in the US on March 2.
