YourDC has constructed South Australia's first tier 3 data centre, a $30 million facility located in Edinburgh Parks in Northern Adelaide that houses 800 racks with three petabytes capacity.
It spans across 6,500 square feet and is powered by four 2MW transformers, with 200 racks available at launch.
YourDC said that Telstra, Optus, NextGen, Amcom, TPG, iFibred and SABRENet/AARNET were already offering services through the facility or would be soon.
The company wants to pump $1 billion of cloud and data services into the South Australian economy. YourDC created 100 jobs for the construction of the facility, and will employ another 30 new staff at launch and a further 40 customer service staff in a few months’ time.
YourDC was co-founded by former Adam Internet managing director Scott Hicks, which was acquired by iiNet in 2013 for $60 million, and tech entrepreneur Greg Siegele.
Hicks said that YourDC has already signed up more than 20 customers, including an unnamed “international defence giant” and a city council.
“Without private investment like this in ICT infrastructure, these businesses would have to look interstate for true disaster recovery,” said Hicks.
“YourDC offers custom private data rooms that are unique in the state. They are protected by multiple levels of physical and virtual data security and cannot be accessed by other customers whether deliberately or by accident.”
