Adapter brings Foxtel home at 200Mbps

Foxtel subscribers will be able to access the pay TV provider's programs from any room in the house over their internal electrical wiring from next month following an agreement to resell Netcomm Ethernet-over-powerline adapters.

From November 15, Foxtel will resell the Netcomm NP204 200Mbps powerline adapter that has an AC passthrough allowing other devices to piggyback on it to draw their power from the wall. A line filter ensured no crosstalk interference from other devices plugged into the $80 RRP device, Netcomm said.

Netcomm said it was plug and play, requiring no user administration once it was plugged in the wall.

It also made available through other channels a $199 NP203 home Ethernet-over-powerline kit that had a four-port switch for home entertainment systems.

"With an upsurge of Internet devices being used in the home, it is important that Australians can experience the benefits of simple, fast and reliable online networking using their existing infrastructure," said NetComm General Manager Danny Morrison.

The device contrasted with recent newspaper claims that cabling would cost homeowners $400 a room or $3000 to reticulate high-speed broadband networks through a house.
