5G Networks taps PureStorage for data centre consolidation

Pure Storage has delivered a data centre consolidation for Melbourne managed services provider 5G Networks (5GN).

5GN serves corporate and government clients across Australia with telecommunications services, co-location, data centre, infrastructure provision and managed IT services.

The company engaged Pure Storage to consolidate two leased data centres – with a combined volume of over 1.5 petabytes of data – into a single data centre facility in Sydney. 

Pure Storage’s all-flash storage solutions featuring DirectFlash Modules helped 5GN reduce rack space by 65 per cent, which has in turn decreased energy and cooling costs.

“We are a very customer centric company and anything that affects a customer is a priority for us," 5GN's head of cloud and platforms Wahab Khan said.

"It was a huge project involving the movement and consolidation of 1.5 petabytes of data and thousands of livecustomer services that needed to be maintained with an absolute minimum of disruption."

5GN has also freed up its IT team with the use of Pure Storage's Pure1 data storage management platform. 

The data centre consolidation was completed in half the forecasted time, taking less than three months, with minimal disruptions to customers.
