Google’s new baby is based on the Samsung’s Galaxy S, which is why the phone might have a familiar ring to it.
The Nexus S comes with a near field communications (NFC) chip. Swipe the phone over an NFC tag and the phone can read data from it or write data to it (for example, it can read a web address from a label and automatically launch the Android browser in the process).
The Nexus S comes with 16GB of integrated storage.
The Nexus S boasts a curved screen. Look at it from the side and you’ll see that it’s very slightly concave, the idea being that it’s more comfortable to hold to your face than a standard, flat-screened phone.
The Nexus S keeps connectivity to a minimum: it comes with a mini USB port (which also doubles as a battery charger) and a 3.5mm microphone jack. There are no external memory options.
Like the iPhone 4, the Samsung Nexus S comes with a three-axis gyroscope to go with its accelerometer.
The phone’s dedicated GPU should ensure The Nexus S comes with a dedicated GPU. This should ensure that the most demanding games are delivered in a smooth and judder-free manner.
The Android 2.3 OS manages background tasks more closely, taking a proactive role in shutting down unnecessary processes. This helps to save on battery life.
The Google Nexus S comes with a 1GHz processor under the hood.
The Nexus S's camera is capable of shooting 720x480 video and also comes with an inbuilt flash.
The rear panel is made of glossy, insubstantial-feeling plastic. It feels a bit cheap.
The 4in 480 x 800 screen uses Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology, which means it’s eyeball-searing in its brightness and amazingly colourful.
The Nexus S touchscreen is sensitive and accurate.
