Skype
Microsoft paid $US8.5 billion for Skype in 2011, planning on rolling the free internet calling service into its social software offerings. It is also planned to be a significant part of Office. Despite the price paid, Skype was clearly a savvy buy – it’s far and away the leader in internet calling, with Google lagging a distant second.
