Any regular visitor to the Thai capital Bangkok will have noticed a dramatic change in the normally grey and dusty urban landscape over the last few years. Bolted to skyscrapers, telegraph polls, train stations and shopping mall escalators, is a mushrooming crop of digital signs, with many big enough to cover half a football field. Ads showcase a broad range of offerings from fashion to travel, shopping, cars and of course tech. How effective a sales and marketing tool digital signage is remains to be seen. Digital signage displays running various adds for Microsoft's Windows 8 are all over the Bangkok, further evidence of the software giant's determination its new OS will be a success.
