Alastair MacGibbon takes key role at Dimension Data

Dimension Data has snagged former high profile Australian Federal Police agent Alastair MacGibbon to head up its security division in Australia. MacGibbon steps into the new role of security business unit general manager for Dimension Data Australia.

He spent 15 years in the police force and was the founding director of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre.

Check Point announces new Australian channel boss

It's musical chairs in the Australian security channel at the moment. First, Check Point has announced Nigel Gutschlag (pictured) as its new Australian channel boss, filling a role left vacant after the departure of Sean Abbott to Trend Micro.

Abbott left Check Point and took up the role of Australian and New Zealand enterprise sales director for Trend Micro in February this year, according to his resume.

Former Symantec systems engineer manager joins Check Point

Check Point has also hired former Symantec systems engineer manager Philip Dimitriu (pictured) to head its Australian and New Zealand presales as regional engineering director. According to Dimitriu's resume, he started his career in the late 1990s as an engineer at Southern Cross Computer Systems.

The new appointments follow Fortinet's announcement that it had hired two ex-Check Point staff earlier this year - Gary Gardiner as new director of engineering for ANZ and Merrilyn Gardiner, previously mid-market channel manager for Check Point.

Former Oracle and Sun executive in key channel role

ASX-listed integrator ASG Group has hired a former Oracle and Sun executive in a key strategic sales role. Peter Fuller will be head of strategic sales with responsibility for the $150 million-turnover integrator's NSW and Victoria and business. Fuller was formerly vice president of Oracle's Systems business in Australia and New Zealand from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, he was the director of Sun Microsystems' software practise in Australia and New Zealand.

Chee-Mei Gan to head up distribution at Intel Australia

Intel Australia has hired former HP marketing boss Chee-Mei Gan as its new national distribution manager. Gan will be responsible for helping local distributors to drive demand for Intel based products, including desktop CPUs, SSDs, NUC systems and tablets.

She was previously the director of product marketing in HP's South Pacific personal systems group, where she was responsible for driving demand and market share. Her resume at HP covers commercial and consumer PCs, laptops, workstations, thin clients and retail POS and accessories and services.

Todd Parsons replaces David Elliott at Avaya

Avaya has hired former NetApp ANZ channel sales and alliances director Todd Parsons to replace David Elliott, who moved to Aruba Networks in May.

In an IT career spanning more than two decades, Parsons held senior roles at Sun Microsystems and HP. He has been with NetApp since 2010, during which time he has been responsible for the local company's evolution from a direct to indirect model, according to Avaya. Avaya's ANZ managing director, Tony Simonsen, described the appointment as a "statement hire".

"He's got that transformational background. Great operational experience, a good strategic thinker," Simonsen said. "He has great relationships with many of our existing partners, that's also very attractive for us."

Optus hires ex-HP boss

Former Australian boss of IT giant HP, David Caspari, has joined the country's second largest telco Optus, taking a lead role in the company's ICT services push. Caspari's resigned from his role as HP's South Pacific managing after 12 months on the job, the second local HP boss in a year to exit after Paul Brandling departed the IT giant in mid 2012.

He joins Optus as its vice president of product and ICT within Optus Business, reporting to Optus business managing director John Paitaridis, in what the telco said was an effort to boost its end-to-end IT services capability.

John Griffin lands key account role at Dimensions Data

Data#3 cloud solutions manager John Griffin has been headhunted to Dimension Data's data centre operations. Peter Prowse, general manager of Data Centre Solutions at Dimension Data, told CRN that Griffin's remit would span on-premise, consulting, managed services and cloud. Griffin joined DiData in May and reports to Prowse and Victorian solutions manager Mark Trumble.

Griffin's move comes after eight years at Data#3, including the past three heading up its cloud strategy across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.

Francois Vazille moves from IBM to Schneider

Former 12-year veteran of IBM Australia Francois Vazille will take up a key role at power management vendor Schneider Electric.

Vazille was a member of IBM ANZ's senior executive team until late last year, with the role of vice president of sales, enterprise and government. He also held other senior roles at IBM prior to that, including general manager systems and technology group and director of IBM's technology and system Telstra account. He takes up the role of vice president for Schneider Electric IT in the Pacific, which CRN understands includes responsibility for growth and revenue.

Ex-Accenture heavy hitter joins Melbourne integrator

SMS Management & Technology has scored a coup with former Accenture Australia managing director Derek Young taking up the position of the company's new chairman. The heavy hitter has more than 30 years in the industry, as managing director of Accenture Australia as well as former managing partner of Accenture Financial Services in Asia Pacific.

Young said he was looking forward to helping "evolve" SMS. He has been on the SMS board since 2011, saying he was "very impressed" with the quality and capability of the company. The appointment marks a milestone for the SMS board, with outgoing chairman Laurie Cox retiring from the board after 13 years.
