What security technology and services do you specialise in?
Our primary focus is security and data management, and we have chosen to partner with targeted vendors who all have excellent security and data management solutions: Websense, Sophos, GWAVA, Titus and Linus.
When did your company first get involved in this area?
Since we started the business in 2006. Our market position has moved from general IT consultancy with a security practice, to being fully security and data management-focused.
Which are your security credentials?
Commulynx has achieved the highest level of technical certification for all the security and data management vendors we support. We recently became the first company in Australia to achieve GWAVA technical certification and platinum partner status.
Who are your main distributors for security technology?
We work closely with Websense and have also partnered with Avnet.
Heard about any cool developments in security lately?
Security practices of old were all about blocking the bad guys, with security focused on a rigid perimeter. However, current thinking is that enterprise security is no longer bound to the perimeter, with the focus shifting to appropriate monitoring and incident response. Security priorities need to give the IT security team a core capability of mitigation and response.
Can you tell us about a recent security deployment you have done?
Of note was an enterprise-wide data loss prevention solution at a state-based electricity provider. Sensitive technical documents were being copied and transmitted over its network. The challenge was that users and information are constantly on the move. Therefore we designed a solution that offered protection across all data channels, including web, email, print and endpoints.
What is driving customers’ security projects?
Uncertainty is the biggest driver. There is a lot of security propaganda off the back of the 'doom and gloom' view.
Information security is...
Knowing what is really critical and managing the risk appropriately.
