CRN chats with Scott McKinnel, country manager for Australia and New Zealand at Check Point Software.
Your job title?
Country manager, Australia and New Zealand, Check Point Software.
What do you like about your job?
The people I work with, both staff and business partners. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s true.
What do you dislike about your job?
Anything to do with contracts...not the contracts per se, just dealing with legal folk who get involved to ‘help’.
Your strangest job?
Debt collecting, in particular finding myself in the middle of a fortified compound surrounded by patched gang members. Not sure what I was thinking, but I got the money.
Your biggest mistake?
Turning up for my open book physics final at uni, without my book.
Favourite superstar?
Are the All Blacks considered superstars?
Favourite pastime?
Outdoor pursuits, in particular snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking.
Favourite food?
Anything hot and spicy washed down with lager.
What are you reading?
Guns, Germs and Steel by Professor Jared Diamond.
What are you listening to?
The latest Green Day and The Killers albums, and I’m also partial to chill-out compilations and cheesy stuff, which I’m reluctant to disclose for fear of persecution.
