Kinetic IT shares insights for security success
Mark Parker

We speak with general manager delivery services Mark Parker.

What IT security brands and services do you specialise in?

Kinetic IT maintains strong relationships with industry partners that each provide a vital component of our cyber security offerings. They include Intel Security, HPE, Check Point, Symantec, Cisco, Microsoft and ServiceNow.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

Kinetic IT has been providing security services since 1996. It is a critical part of our services and a priority for most of our customers. Cybersecurity underpins each of the other services we provide with a full end-to-end information assurance capability.

What are your security credentials?

Staff engaged in the delivery of security services are trained and accredited in the underpinning technologies they manage. Many have academic qualifications, such as Bachelors- or Masters-level degrees in specialist subjects, as well as a few PhDs. Many of our staff have the ubiquitous and universally accepted professional qualifications such as CISSP, CISMP, CEH and CISM, as well as technical certifications including CCIE (Security), CompTIA Security+ and CCNA.

Heard about any cool trends in the security space recently?

The things that have our technical guys really buzzing are the highly sophisticated threat intelligence sharing capabilities coming from the United States and the Federal government’s Cyber Security Centre. We’re also amazed at the speed the bad guys churn out new attacks.

Can you tell us about a recent security deployment you have done?

Most recently, we’ve integrated a new system into our Security Operations Centre that intercepts file execution and holds it while our system checks its reputation and profiles its operation. If it’s discovered to be malicious, we immediately quarantine it and alert the rest of our customers’ endpoint of this malware.

What is driving customers’ security projects?

The threat environment. Last year big Australian names such as David Jones and the Bureau of Meteorology were acknowledged as having been hacked and the ABS reported identity theft cost the economy over $1.2 billion in the past year.

Security is…

A feeling that we have when we have no information to the contrary.
