A letter from the editor

A letter from the editor

Two years and two months after taking the role as editor of CRN it’s time for me to move on. It’s been a fantastic experience immersing myself in the ins and outs of the IT industry, meeting the names and personalities that drive technology sales in Australia and making contacts and friends among resellers in the frontline.

I’ve had a lot of fun writing up the daily dramas of the channel and I’ll miss the fast-paced action and vibrancy of the news cycle.

So many stories don’t make it into print – either to maintain confidentiality or avoid lawsuits – but you can rest assured that the channel is alive and thriving as the day I first wrote about it 10 years ago.

What am I going to do next? Funny you ask – I thought I’d have a go at selling software. It’s too hard to sit on the sidelines writing about the highs and lows of living life in the channel without being tempted to jump in and have a go.

I’m full of the optimism of the uninitiated and no doubt will run into schoolboy mistakes from day one, but I can’t wait to find out what it’s like to do it yourself.

Here’s hoping I’m not written up in CRN a year later as a channel casualty! Before I go, some pointers for this issue.

In our cover feature, videoconferencing is still bubbling away as a growing trend for SMB. And disaster recovery is front of mind for businesses after the earthquakes that rocked Christchurch and Japan.

While I won’t be talking to you every day on the web and every month in the magazine, I’ll definitely be running into some of you around the traps.

Don’t be afraid to come up and say hello, curse me for a story I’ve written or buy me a beer.

You need a thick hide to be a journo – I think it might come in handy as a reseller.Go well, sell well, and I’ll see you later. Thanks for the lols.

Note: Sholto will continue writing for CRN as a freelancer so you will continue to see his name alongside some great stories in the future.
