Melbourne IT gunning for Bulletproof with top AWS honour

Melbourne IT has become one of only 28 AWS Premier Consulting Partners in the world, from a global pool of more than 7,000 partners.

The elite status puts Melbourne IT on an equal footing with Bulletproof, which became the first Australian AWS partner to earn the title last year.

Earning the badge is “significant” news, stated Melbourne IT chief executive officer Martin Mercer. The company expects the certification will drive leads.

While the company is a market leader in domains and hosting for SMBs, Melbourne IT has been remaking its enterprise division into a services business due to declining revenues from dedicated hosting for the enterprise sector.

The firm has been building a range of managed services on top of the cloud infrastructure operated by AWS in Australia, including data centre consolidation services, managed web application services, managed ecommerce and managed CMS.

The company has been an AWS partner since 2012 and holds AWS Government Partner and AWS Managed Service Partner certifications.

An investor presentation from Melbourne IT published this week shows an enterprise roadmap that includes managed web application services, managed public cloud services, managed communication and collaboration services and Internet performance and security management.

AWS has already proven it can make a significant contribution to its partners’ revenues, with Bulletproof enjoying a 29 percent jump in revenue to reach $18.3 million for the 2014 financial year. AWS revenue made up around 17 percent of Bulletproof’s recurring revenue.

Earlier this year it was reported that AWS had around 700 partners in Australia and New Zealand. Recent AWS wins include the announcement that almost 500 Victorian schools will be hosted on the platform.

CRN’s sister publication iTnews revealed in October that AWS is building two data centres in Sydney, and the firm recently announced it has more than 1 million active customers globally and plans to more than double its investments in its partner network.
