National PC repair group falls into administration

Computer repair provider NCSS Maintenance Services has gone into voluntary administration.

Administrator Smith Hancock was appointed on 27 August and a creditors meeting is scheduled for 5 September.

The company is still trading and no employees have been laid off, administrators told CRN. NCSS has approximately 70 staff, administrators said.

NCSS supplies services and repairs nationally for HP, administrators said. The company was registered in 1982, according to public records.

CRN spoke to three sub-agents of NCSS with operations in Queensland and NSW who said they are owed money, including Paul Chiari of FNQ Computers in Atherton, Queensland. He said the company has worked with NCSS for at least 10 years.

Chiari said the warranty repair work the company does under NCSS includes servers, workstations, printers and laptops.

"The main focus is business products. We don't get a lot of consumer products. It's usually schools, hospitals - those kind of bigger contracts," Chiari said. He reported approximately $4,500 in outstanding payments.

In addition to warranty repairs, CRN understands some NCSS sub-agents provide IT support services to several high-profile organisations and businesses, including a major retailer and a bank.

"They're huge" said one NCSS sub agent who asked not to be named. "I think the last [NCSS] conference I went to there was probably 100 [other sub-agents] there."
