One of the world's leading Microsoft Lync integration partners has revealed it is moving into the Australian market, with Modality Systems planning to open its first local office in Sydney on 1 July.
The IT firm, which has more than 350,000 Lync seats deployed globally in over 200 countries, has had its interest piqued by a strong Australian economy, according to president John Lamb.
"We see Australia as a very hot market in general, we see a lot of activity there, a lot of businesses expanding," Lamb told CRN. "When you look at the GDP growth and economic growth in Australia, it outpaces the macroeconomic trends we see globally."
The company is one of 12 global Microsoft Lync Certified Support Partners and has an 85,000-seat Lync deployment among its claims to fame, Lamb said. Modality Systems has offices in the UK and US.
"If you compare us to HP or DiData, obviously those are larger companies - but our Lync practice is bigger than all of theirs," he said.
Lamb said he sees demand for Lync work increasing in Australia. Modality Systems has already been doing business locally for a couple of years, with a global law firm and pharmaceutical company among its customers.
A local office will mean the company won't have to depend on flying staff to Australia to service clients. The local office will also contribute to Modality System's 24x7 global support services, Lamb said.
Lamb predicted rapid growth for the Lync market, saying the technology was used by 90 percent of Fortune 100 customers. "We see voice capabilities of Lync overtaking many of the traditional voice competitors in that space."
Modality Systems also supplies PSTN gateways, handsets, headsets, and videoconferencing and resells products from the likes of Polycom, Sonus, AudioCodes, Plantronics and Jabra.
