Kogan's long-anticipated move into the New Zealand market is finally happening, with the online retailer opening its store for Kiwis today.
Kogan has claimed its parallel imported and own-label goods are up to 75 percent cheaper than the prices existing retailers offer.
Chief executive and founder Ruslan Kogan told CRN that while there would be local New Zealand staff hired to assist with the operation, it will be managed from the Melbourne headquarters.
"Local staff will be involved with warehousing, shipping, logistics, support and other ancillary industries," Kogan said. Warranty and support will managed by local staff in New Zealand he added.
Smaller purchased goods will be shipped from Kogan's Melbourne and Hong Kong distribution centres, he said. Larger ones such as TVs will be handled by Kogan's Auckland warehouse.
Initially, Kiwis won't get the full range of goods offered in Australia, but Kogan said more would be added throughout the year. Currently, larger items such as TVs are not available on the New Zealand site.
On top of taking on established store brands, the retailer will go up against smaller parallel importers as well in NZ, some of which offer comparable savings to Kogan.
