Resellers pack out Government's cloud supplier list

Fourteen more suppliers have been named to the Government’s preferred supplier list for cloud services, with resellers boosting the numbers on the 49-strong list.

The Federal Government in October last year announced 35 firms had made it onto its Data Centre as a Service (DCaaS) Multi Use List, including the likes of vendors such as Telstra, HP, IBM Dell, as well as service and solutions providers like UltraServe, Datacom, UXC Connect, Intech Solutions and Compuware.

The Government first opened invitations for registration in August 2012.

It this week announced 14 more candidates had attained a position on the list, bringing the total to 49.

Agencies now have 1200 cloud services, such as virtualisation, disaster recovery and online collaboration tools, available to them.

It is not compulsory for agencies to procure cloud solutions through listed suppliers.

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO)’s first assistant secretary for agency service John Sheridan last year said the list would lower the entry point for suppliers to bid for agency work.

Suppliers are required to enter two references around their cloud capabilities. All deals will be worth no more than $80,000 and will run no longer than one year.

Assistant Secretary at the Department of Finance and Deregulation Mundi Tomlinson today said in a blog post more agencies were approaching the Government for simpler and cheaper IT solutions.

The list forms part of the Government’s Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025, to procure cloud solutions for low-risk, flexible projects.
