Microsoft and Nokia have invited members of the press to a New York launch event on September 5, indicating a potential new Windows Phone 8 Lumia is set to drop.
The event invitation offers little detail but displays both the Nokia Lumia and Windows Phone logos.
It was reported earlier today that Nokia will reveal its next-generation Windows Phones at Nokia World, a two-day conference starting on September 5 which coincides with the above New York event.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop stated the public could expect to see Windows Phone 8 devices in the "relatively near term".
Nokia has had a tough time turning customers onto its Lumia range in a market dominated by Android devices and Apple's iPhone.
It sold four million Lumia smartphones during its second quarter, nearly twice the volume shipped during the company's first fiscal quarter. In comparison, Apple sold 35.1 million iPhones in its second quarter.
Elop said at the time the company was seeing important progress in Lumia numbers. He said Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 software releases were catalysts for Lumia adoption.
Nokia's Lumia smartphones will not be able to receive the full Windows Phone 8 refresh due to the requirement for multicore processors.
Nokia and Microsoft will transition the Lumia family from its Windows Phone 7.5 OS to the watered-down Windows Phone 7.8.
