New iPad 3 pre-order deliveries delayed

Apple's new iPad has sold out on pre-orders, with customers who ordered the tablet after the March 8 announcement forced to wait an extra week for delivery.

Customers who ordered the iPad 3 on the night of the Apple announcement will still recieve the new iPad on March 16. Australian buyers looking to pre-order from now face a two to three week wait.

The new Apple iPad will start shipping to early bird customers in black or white from $539 for the 16GB model wi-fi model, $649 for the 32GB and $759 for the 64GB. For wi-fi + 4G the 16GB will cost $679, the 32GB $A789 and 64GB $899.

The original iPad 2 will continue to be sold alongside the new iPad and has had its price slashed down to $429 for the 16GB wi-fi model and $569 for wi-fi + 3G.

The new iPad will land on US shelves with 4G capability. Australians will not be able to access 4G/LTE on their new iPad, as it only supports 700MHz and 2100MHz spectrum bands. Telstra's 1800MHz 4G network is not supported.
