The distributor was established in May 2002, to provide on-site sales, marketing as well as technical support for resellers in APAC.
Headquartered in Singapore, it also has offices in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Sydney office opened its doors on 1 September and Fredericks, previously the northern regional sales manager at Secure Computing, will head the business.
According to Fredericks, M.Tech’s decision to head into Australia was part of a ‘natural progression’.
“It was a natural progression to move to Australia, which will allow M.Tech to cover the whole region,” he said.
“Vendors and major customers have been requesting an office in Australia because it will allow them to deal with only one reseller for projects through-out APAC.”
Despite coming from a vendor environment, Fredericks said his previous experience, working at Dovetail – before it was sold to itX in 2005/6, helped land him the role of general manager for the new office,
“I got talking to M.Tech about a start-up in Australia,” he said.
“Having a local office will help major integrators, who want to extend their presence into other countries.”
Fredericks claimed the distributor can help local resellers, with end-users that want project roll-outs throughout their offices in APAC countries.
“If their customers want to do a regional roll out of a particular operation, then we can help them with importation, customs and tax issues,” he said.
“M.Tech also offer a complete service with an authorised training centre in Singapore, which has the capacity to offer technical support.”
According to Fredericks, the distributor will also be doing the same thing in the Sydney office.
Although the Singapore office handles quite a few vendors, in Australia – at this stage – the distributor has only signed up enterprise security resellers like, Tipping Point and ProofPoint.
“We are talking to several other vendors, including Imperve.”
“We want to offer resellers enterprise products in the security market. We are just beginning and are choosing vendors that fit a total solution.
By 2009, Fredericks claimed the distributor will open offices in other states in Australia.
“Melbourne will be the next office we open. Next year we plan to grow aggressively as possible. The growth will be organic.”
