Kiwi software firm adds 11,000 potential resellers

Xero has announced a "huge coup", adding a potential 11,000 resellers to its partner network in the US.

The alliance with H&R Block will see thousands of accounting offices recommending Xero as the preferred cloud accounting platform for small businesses in the US.

The tax services provider will "solely promote" Xero to small business customers in locations that sell H&R Block's Small Business Program suite.

The partnership will significantly expand Xero's reach in the US, said managing director of Xero Australia Chris Ridd.

"It gives us incredible reach across the US which is very strategic for our growth prospects in the US region," he told CRN. "It does give us instant reach across those 11,000 organisations. Which for us is a huge coup in that market."

H&R Block has offices in all 50 states in the US, and claims to have a retail office within approximately 8km of "most Americans."

The alliance follows several other strategic partnerships for Xero both in the US and UK. Last year, the 35th largest accounting firm in the US, Amanio McKenna, picked Xero as a platform of choice. Xero claimed that the firm's customers would "typically have been Quickbooks" customers.

Last month Xero announced integration with mobile payments provider Square in the US, meaning Square users can link their accounts to Xero. Another major accounting firm put its weight behind Xero in the UK in March, with KPMG forming a strategic alliance with the vendor.

In Australia, Deloitte announced last year that it would offer Xero to clients. At the time the firm expected to have migrated 2,000 ledgers to Xero by the end of the financial year.

Xero had also announced that Crowe Horwath had put 1,000 clients onto Xero.

In Australia, H&R Block has 420 offices. Ridd said Xero doesn’t have the same alliance with H&R Block in Australia, but "we're speaking with a number of providers."

"You're likely to see more and more of this sort of partnerships which allows us to gain reach," he said.
