Yahoo looked to continue its web overhaul on Tuesday with the release of a new mobile site.
The company said that the new mobile homepage is designed to better integrate with the newly-revamped PC version of Yahoo.
The updated home page was unveiled last week and features the ability to better customize settings as well as integration with a number of media and social networking services. Similarly, the company is hoping that the new mobile site will allow users better control over the look of the page and the information displayed on it.
Yahoo said that the new mobile site will also sport better integration with the PC site, allowing users to customize data and add applications on their notebook or desktop systems which can then be transferred to their handsets.
The new mobile site and PC sync feature is being released in 17 countries and should initially support roughly 400 devices.
The company is also working on a new page specially designed for the Apple iPhone handset and its built-in Safari web browser. The page sports a new tabbed layout and allows users to update information for Twitter and Facebook accounts as well as access financial information and RSS news feed info.
Yahoo said that it plans to expand the iPhone version of the mobile site to other devices in the coming months.
The redesign is the latest in what has been a major rebuilding effort for Yahoo this year. The campaign began in January when the company named Carol Bartz as its new chief executive.
Since taking over, Bartz has undertaken efforts to reshape both the company's corporate structure and business focus.
