Indian outsourcing giant Wipro has acquired a Perth-based IT provider as part of a global outsourcing and acquisition deal measured in the billions.
Wipro revealed it has entered into an IT outsourcing alliance with Canadian company ATCO worth more than CAD$120 million per year for 10 years – roughly A$1.2 billion in total.
ATCO is a 9,800-staff company that spans energy, logistics, utilities and technology.
As well as providing a "complete suite of IT services" to the Canadian giant, Wipro has acquired ATCO's IT subsidiaries in Australia and North America for CAD$210 million (A$208 million).

ATCO I-Tek has been providing IT services to ATCO for 15 years, and since 2011 from the Perth operation.
ATOC operates the Karratha 86 MW power generating station in Western Australia, which it opened in 2010.
The Perth IT division offers systems integration and also operates a SAP practice, along with mobility, voice, data, security, disaster recovery and managed infrastructure from its tier-3 data centre.
Anand Padmanabhan, Wipro's chief executive, energy, natural resources and utilities, said: "We have traditionally had a strong position in the utilities space in Europe and this engagement provides momentum to our business in Canada and Australia.
"The alliance with ATCO enhances our capability to create, nurture and tap local talent to power our growth journey in Canada."
