Virgin Mobile recalls fire hazard power banks
Yatama power bank melted from overheating

Virgin Mobile has recalled portable mobile phone chargers it gave away to customers due to a fire hazard.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced that Yatama Power Bank model number PB017 has "a manufacturing defect" and may overheat.

In "the worst case scenario", according to the ACCC, the overheating battery could pose a fire hazard.

Virgin Mobile gave out the power banks with its own branding as part of a national promotion, and is currently "writing to all affected customers".

Customers who own the PB017 power bank are warned to stop using the device immediately and dispose of it, including the accompanying USB cable.

The ACCC statement did not state whether Virgin Mobile would compensate customers, and as of the morning of 8 May the telco's website did not display any information about the recall.
