While Ortega won’t give an exact dollar figure on the rise of sales, he told CRN that sales in UMPC and mobile computing products have had a big spike from vertical markets.
“It seems like we are doing well in the home evaluation market (insurers and home valuers), medical arena and basically any mobile sales force. We are also finding a big spike in the sale of products to the mining industry. Vertical markets are our bread and butter and we spend a lot of time talking to specialist resellers with knowledge in their field,” said Ortega.
According to Ortega, a Tegatech reseller recently won a contract to supply 150 units to a government department and another reseller won a contract to supply 300 untis to a Queensland-based company.
“I can’t say who they are but it gives you an idea of the size of the contracts our resellers can win,” he said.
Currently Tegatech has around 300 resellers in its books. Ortega wants that number to increase to 1000 for the Australian/New Zealand region.
“We aren’t seeking resellers, a lot of resellers that come to us are through end-users. There have been instances where a government department wanted to purchase UMPC products and have requested the reseller go through Tegatech for the products,” said Ortega.
He claimed resellers are shocked by the in-depth range on UMPC and mobile computing products because most resellers still see mobile computers as clunky products.
“Resellers don’t realise we know stock sub$1000 UJMPC products. We also have 3G embedded machines. When they come to us and inquire about the offerings they don’t realise it’s a total package of hardware, software and services,” said Ortega.
With the business growing at a steady rate, both here and in New Zealand, Ortega said he would entertain the idea of selling his business at the end of the fiscal year.
“There was one conversation with a particular party, but that didn’t go anywhere. However come the end of this financial year, I will definately entertain the idea of someone purchasing the business. I have been growing the business for seven years and it gets exhausting,” he said.
