Vandal severs Telstra services in Lismore

Telstra crews are working to restore service to an area of Lismore disrupted after a set of cables under a bridge in the northern NSW town were vandalised.

A Telstra spokesperson said fixed telephone and fixed internet services to part of the township had been impacted, and that the damage was significant. Due to the difficult location of the damage, two cables, each 330 metres in length, need to be replaced.

It is understood the cables were cut with an angle grinder, according to a report in local media.

The incident has been reported to the police.

"The new cables are being installed today and Telstra anticipates progressive restoration of the services to begin from Friday and finalised over the weekend," Telstra NSW regional general manager Mike Marom said.

"We understand the frustration this can cause and we are doing everything we can to restore impacted services as quickly as possible."
