IT security provider Unixpac has signed up to distribute LAN control and enforcement platforms for US-based networking vendor ConSentry Networks.
Tom Piotrowski, managing director at Unixpac, said ConSentry Networks' LAN control was a "breakthrough" product.
"[ConSentry enables] companies to secure every user without having to replace their switches," he said.
Piotrowski said ConSentry Networks' range could help enterprises stave off known and unknown attacks on Gigabit wireline performance.
Security issues were becoming a top priority in the switching and routing markets, he added.
Piotrowski said ConSentry Networks offered LAN security systems aimed at preserving data integrity, network availability and regulatory compliance.
Its LAN control and enforcement platform aimed at continuously identifying all LAN traffic and enforcing user access to authorised resources and applications at wirespeed, he said.
Piotrowski said the platform authenticated packet traffic based on user roles, application behaviour and business logic. It used multi-threading, which Unixpac believed was a "natural evolution" in computer architecture.
"The ConSentry processor embodies multi-threaded technology with 128 CPUs, developed to fully exploit the parallelism of LAN-based communications, while addressing the memory demands of those applications," Unixpac said in a statement.
Users could enable guest or contractor access to the business LAN without risking corporate resources and restrict user access to specific servers, applications or files, Unixpac said.
Unixpac was founded in 1989. It distributes in Australia and New Zealand.
